Our meeting was held as usual at the Panmure Arms Hotel. We welcomed visitors from other local Inner Wheel Clubs, namely Montrose, Forfar and Kirriemuir. We also welcomed local guests Fiona Greig and Marjory Willox and our speaker for the evening, Emily Smith, an Education Officer with the SSPCA.
The SSPCA was set up December, 1839 on the back of one woman’s conviction, Martha Gibson who unfortunately passed away five years later, but her vision continues. Obviously much of the work done today has changed dramatically, but the core mission is still the same – build a better world for all animals.
It is not just rehoming and home visits that the SSPCA support – they offer range of services including rehoming, fostering, neutering, microchipping etc. In 2021, 3220 domestic animals were rehomed. The nearest centre to our area would be Drumoak.
The Special Investigation Unit of the SSPCA are at the forefront of the struggle to eradicate the worst types of animal cruelty. The team deal with badger baiting, animal fights, puppy farming, illegal trapping and so forth.
In conclusion Emily spoke of ways which might help with fundraising to support SSPCA as well as volunteering.

We held a very successful coffee morning 4 March at the Masonic Hall. Thanks to all – the helpers, the Rotary Club, contributors to the raffle, but last, but not least the members of the public who supported the event. All monies raised go to local good causes. Again our thanks.
