Gala week in Luthermuir begins on Monday 3rd June with a Walking Treasure Hunt around the village. Leaving the Hall at 6.30pm, the hunt is suitable for all ages, and refreshments will be available in the hall afterwards.
Tickets are now on sale for a Cookery Demonstration on Wednesday 5th June, 7pm for 7.30pm, when some local gents will be sharing their recipes and demonstrating their signature dishes in what is likely to be a very entertaining evening. A glass of wine and lucky ticket draw is included in the ticket price. There will also be a raffle with some great prizes including celebrity chef cookbooks with autographs. The event is for over 18s and by ticket only. Tickets cost £4 – contact Morag Innes on 01674 840336.
The Gala Quiz Night is in the small hall on the Friday evening – as usual, this is a bring-your-own refreshments event. It starts at 7.30pm, and it’s teams of up to 4 people. Cost will be £2.00 per person, pay on the night.
Finally to the main event, Gala Day, which this year is being held on Sunday 9th June, in the Park & Hall. Following last year’s very low turnout for the football competition, organisers have decided to take a break from that this year, instead opting to try out some new events. The Gala will open with a Heroes and Villains Fancy Dress competition for all ages, with points awarded for originality – the more homemade the costume, the better!
A Fun Dog Show will run throughout the afternoon, with classes including Handsomest Hound, Prettiest Bitch, Golden Oldie, Best Child Handler, and the Egg and Spoon. Copies of the schedule for the Show will be available shortly and registration takes place on the day from 1pm. There will also be an Agility Display by Northern Lights Agility.
The organisers are very pleased to welcome back The Eileen Lindsay Dancers this year, who will give us two performances during the afternoon. A variety of stalls including some local craft producers will be in the park – anyone wishing to bring a stall can contact Susan on 01674 840260.
In the Main Hall, there will be an exhibition of locally made arts & crafts, as well as a display of all the entries for the Gala Day poster competition being run in conjunction with the Primary School. Anyone living in or around Luthermuir who would like the opportunity to display their work, can contact Janet on 01674 840669. Teas and homebakes will be available in the Small Hall, with a beer tent and BBQ out in the park.
Tickets for the Gala Raffle are now on sale, and the organisers are delighted to once again have the support of the Laurencekirk Co Op store, where they will be selling tickets on Saturday 11th May. First prize is £100 cash, and other prizes include a Meal Voucher for a local restaurant, bottles of wine & spirits plus much more.
There are some further activities in the pipeline, more news on these nearer the time, or follow the Hall on Twitter @luthermuirhpc for the latest updates. All that remains now is to hope for a fine day and lots of local support – the weather, of course, is completely outside the organisers’ control!
