Summer finally arrived last week for the latest Business Club meeting as it was held alfresco in the lovely sheltered surroundings of ‘Hugo’s’ new dining Garden opened at the back of Hugo’s. Members sat basking in the evening sun whilst enjoying coffee and chat, it was a lovely start to proceedings!
Linda Farquharson (Hugo’s) as Chairwoman conducted the meeting and confirmed the good news that the organised Bonfire Event will definitely go ahead as planned, as the landowner John McWilliams from Haughhead Farm at Laurencekirk has very kindly confirmed giving permission for the Bonfire and Firework display to be held on his land.
This good news brings a new momentum to the planning of this event and there is great enthusiasm by all involved. The entertainment license has been organised and a risk assessment will be carried out by the council to fulfil Council requirements, so plans are well on the way.
Mearns Pipe Band has been booked to play on the night and during the firework display, and Dave Williams has been organised to drive his ‘Monster Truck’ as part of the entertainment. SillySnapz will provide photo opportunities along with popcorn and candyfloss for sale, and Ronnie’s Rolls will have two vans providing food and refreshments throughout the evening.
Plans continue for the LBC members to raise funds for making this a very special night, and ‘Sponsor a Firework’ plans are well underway. Special letters for this have been designed by Jacqui D and are being sent to all the local businesses to encourage as much sponsorship as possible for the fireworks, so Businesses keep your eyes peeled for these letters. You can also download the letter here. Alternatively, please contact Linda at Hugo’s or Lynn Moir on 01561 378014 if you wish to donate money and have your name added to a firework.
A ‘Race night’ is also being booked for Sat 31st August in the Masonic Hall, and raffle books are being made to be distributed throughout stores in Laurencekirk with three fantastic top prizes, and all proceeds will go to funding the spectacular Firework Event. Prizes will be announced in due course.
As LBC continues to grow and progress, Pave Graphics distributed samples to the group of ‘Shop LK Leaflets’, which once ready will be distributed amongst shops in the village for customers to receive special offers if they shop locally. These developments will be highlighted as they happen on the LaurencekirkAB30 website so please check it out for further information.
The LBC barbeque is being held on Sunday the 23rd of June, it will be a nice way for members and their families to catch up before the summer break, and is being held at either Hugo’s or Mearns Hardware, depending on the weather.
