Laurencekirk Lunch Club and friends held a treasure hunt and barbecue on Sunday 4th September, and would like to thank sincerely, all of the participants who took part, and those who donated their time, goods or services to make it a great success.

The treasure hunt and barbecue were held to help raise funds for the purchase of a new minibus for Mearns Community Transport.

Laurencekirk Lunch Club are just one of the many clubs and organisations using the minibus which is showing signs of age, and a campaign is underway to try and raise the forty five thousand pounds needed to purchase a fully accessible minibus. The existing minibus is currently used by Laurencekirk Lunch Club, Laurencekirk Pensioners, St Cyrus WRI, the local schools, Laurencekirk Out of School Club, Fettercairn Church, Laurencekirk Church, Social Services, Laurencekirk & District Rotary Club, amongst many others. The loss of the use of the minibus would impinge on the lives of many individuals in the Mearns area from accessing social and educational activities.

Supporters of the minibus have collected hundreds of vouchers over the past few weeks to enable multiple entries to be submitted in the Press & Journal competition to win a minibus. If the community is successful in winning the minibus, then the money currently being raised would be used for running costs.

A sum of £300 was raised and other fund raising activities will be held in the very near future. Your assistance in helping out in any way to help raise the required money, either by supporting the events, or donating directly to the cause would be greatly appreciated. Contact Suzanne on 01561 377000 or mearnsct2@gmail.com to find out about fundraising events that are happening, including a bingo night and an upcoming accordion concert, or to donate to the savings account for the new bus.
