* Update – the meeting will now be at 8.30pm
Laurencekirk Scout Group is a thriving local facility which benefits boys and girls aged 6-14. Scout, Cub and Beaver sections are all well attended (60+ children), and are well supported by pack leaders and assistants who give up their time voluntarily to run the weekly meetings, plus extra events such as weekend camps. Over the last few years, the hut has undergone extensive refurbishment (including the installation of a climbing wall) thanks to generous financial donations from many sources, and the efforts of the committee to make it all happen.
The group held its AGM on Tuesday 7th October, with key positions of Chair, Treasurer and Secretary needing to be filled. Everyone currently on the committee has been involved for a long time, and some don’t even have children attending the group any more, and so it was felt the time was right for some “new blood” on the committee.
Regrettably, the only attendees at the AGM were current committee members and sections leaders/assistants. Therefore no new Executive Committee could be formed, which puts the group in breach of Scout Association and Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR) guidelines and cannot carry on functioning.
In an attempt to remedy the situation, an Extraordinary General Meeting will be held at the Scout Hut on Thursday, 13th November at 19.30. Unless a new committee can be formed, all meetings and upcoming camps will be suspended.
Committee members do not have to have children in the group, and do not work directly with the children. For more information and details visit our webpage www.laurencekirkscouts.org.uk (where there is a contact form), or our Facebook page.
