Scottish fire and Rescue Service in partnership with Police Scotland are holding a road safety event in Mearns Academy 19:00 hours Monday 8th February 2016.
Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and Police Scotland are encouraging communities to attend a road safety event they are hosting at Mearns Academy, Laurencekirk on 8th February which includes a practical demonstration of their response to a road traffic collision.
The event will also involve presentations from both emergency services and which aims to highlight the importance of safer driving and awareness on the roads.
The event is just one of the many initiatives SFRS and Police Scotland are involved in to help reduce the number of people killed or seriously injured on Aberdeenshire’s roads.
Station Manager Stuart Cruickshank said: “We are working with our partners at Police Scotland to highlight road safety in the area, demonstrate how the public can take control of their own driving style and raise awareness about the consequences of a road traffic collision and how collisions can be avoided.”
The event is open to members of the public aged 16 years and over and starts at 7pm on February 8 in the Lecture Room at Mearns Academy, Laurencekirk.
Following the safety presentation there will be a practical demonstration in the car park of Old Mearns Academy. Visitors will be shown hydraulic cutting equipment and extrication techniques used by the fire and rescue service at the scene of a road traffic collision.
The event is being supported by Laurencekirk’s Tower Garage. The garage will issue a voucher to all those who attend on the night which can be exchanged for a free tyre and light check for their vehicle. There will also be a prize draw where one person will win a free MOT.
The demonstration will begin at 8pm and last approximately half an hour. It will feature a mock accident with two vehicles.
